Seeks to reduce emissions from airplanes and ships.
The Department of Energy announced last week that it had approved $64.7 million in new research grants to help develop new biofuels. The goal of this research is to reduce the negative impacts of emissions from airplanes and ships, leading to the total decarbonization of both industries by 2050.
According to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, “Decarbonizing transportation, particularly planes and ships that are difficult to electrify, is an essential part of the path to a net-zero carbon future. These investments mobilize industries to join this effort, which will create new, good-paying jobs across the biofuels, chemical, and agricultural supply chains and boost economic activity in rural economies.”
